Talking Walls
Muralism as a tool for the new era of education
Everything is changing, education too, there are schools willing to explore new creative territories to transgress the most classical education and thus be able to bring new and rich life experiences to students. This is the case of the Ferrer i Guardia school in the small Catalan town of Granollers, which, together with the city council and the Montana Colors department of culture, has promoted an unprecedented project linked to contemporary muralism. This is the third edition of the project 'Walls that speak' and it should be noted that in the previous edition Aryz made one of the best murals in Spanish territory right on the same street where the school is located, although in that case it was not a linked project to the same. In this new edition of the project, the school has chosen muralism as the subject of study throughout the course, each class has chosen an artist and studied it thoroughly. In the school we can find the class of Aryz, Sixe Paredes, Banksy, David Zinn... A milestone in a public school that never ceases to surprise and please us. Apart from all the works that have been developed from their corresponding artists, two large projects have been carried out. In one of them we have carried out different reflection and exchange sessions with the sixth-grade students and the artist Sixe Paredes. In these sessions, the students conducted interviews with the artist to better understand his language and, on the other hand, Sixe opened his pictorial universe to them in order to jointly compose what would be a large mural project on the large wall that presides over the patio area of ββthe school, where the boys and girls go out for recess. It has been a process of intense and deep shared creativity that the children will not forget and what will also remain is the great mural of which they also feel proud and architects.
