The Design of Trash

Thinking about the relationship between design and garbage

Design, consumption and garbage are not only three words that work separately, we could speak of a sequence of human production, as human as sometimes retrograde. That was the reflection of the students themselves when the international workshop of Elisava, Barcelona University School of Design and Engineering, Urban Creativity Adventure, was held, designed and promoted by the artistic team Harpö (Lucas Milà & Arcadi Poch). After a process of collective creation, the students reached their own conclusion: much of what designers with a lot of effort and imagination generate sooner or later ends up in the trash. The resulting images speak for themselves... and the question is repeated over and over again_ Is there any design that can escape such a fatal fate?
